80th Annual Convention Update & Raffle items
Early bird registration for the convention ends this Friday, August 28, at 5:00 PM online, after which rates increase to $85 for attendees and $95 for vendors. In addition, the Roe River Chapter is hosting two special $5 fundraisers featuring a complete outdoor fire pit and camping set, as well as remote music lessons with Aaron Nordstrom; tickets are limited, and winners will be drawn on Saturday, September 12, at 5:00 PM.

2026 Summer Orientation Program
What a year this has been for the Summer Orientation Program! While our students experienced a wonderful summer of learning, growth, and friendship, much of the challenge occurred behind the scenes. Changes in the administration and policies at BLVS delayed the state's contract and created confusion regarding participant eligibility for financial support. As a result, referrals came much later than usual. Ultimately, we welcomed a smaller class this year, with fewer than half of our participants receiving state assistance.

The Observer - President's Report
Vision loss can often lead to feelings of isolation and frustration due to a loss of independence, making it tempting to withdraw from society. However, actively participating in community groups like the Montana Association for the Blind (MAB) helps overcome these challenges by providing mutual understanding and support. MAB offers an inclusive environment for individuals with vision loss and their loved ones through phone calls, local chapter meetings, specialized interest groups, and annual conventions. Members are encouraged to get involved by reaching out to others, joining weekly virtual social hours, participating in monthly statewide calls, or connecting with local chapters to foster a strong, supportive community.

MAB Monthly Mailer
The August MAB Monthly Mailer highlights upcoming summer events and meetings for chapters across Montana, including potlucks, picnics, bowling, and fundraisers in Helena, Butte, Great Falls, Lewistown, Bozeman, Billings, and Laurel. Statewide announcements include the MAB Connect Call on August 3rd, reminders to register for the upcoming convention before the end of the month, and a call for silent auction items. Additional news features the return of the Life Learner Courses in September, an invitation to join the IGive fundraising program, upcoming District Rep elections, and the official launch of the new MAB website.
